錆びた鉄の塊、鋳造ガラス

下の鉄の部分が地を、鋳造したガラスの部分が大気を表しています。ガラスの中に閉じ込められた空気はほとんど永久に入れ替えがないと言えるそうで、割れるまでそのままというのも面白いポイントだと思います。まるで、空気のタイムカプセルのようにも思えます。ガラスを鋳造して空気が閉じ込められたその瞬間の時間そのものを見ているような気持ちにもなります。
地球の中身は鉄が多いとのこと。東京大学総合研究博物館のホームページにはこう書かれています。

錆びた鉄にとても惹かれます。地球の中身の鉄は錆びてるというわけではなさそうですが..。この作品も時間と共に少しずつ錆びていくのを見るのもいいと思います。設置の際の錆の粉避けにジェルコーティングしてありますが、それも洗い流してしまって。
Rusted iron and casted glass. They might be an image of earth and air to me. Actually in casted glass the air will stay forever without any change. It is like a time capsule. I feel like I am watching "time" itself when I see this work.
I made this work with thinking about earth and air. Rusted iron remind me of the earth. (Inside of the earth is almost iron I heard, but it's maybe not rusted through) . Half transparent casted glass makes us feel the past memories on the earth. Somehow I really love rusted iron..
